LASTMA Rescues Two Victims After Multi-Vehicle Crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued two persons trapped in a commercial bus following a multiple-vehicle crash along the Motorway inward Toll-Gate corridor in the Ogudu-Alapere area of Lagos.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the accident involved a 12-tyre DAF articulated truck and a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus with registration number AA 60 YF.

Preliminary findings indicated that the commercial bus somersaulted after a collision, leaving the driver and a passenger trapped inside the wreckage while also causing serious traffic obstruction on the busy corridor.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said its officers, who were on routine patrol, responded swiftly and activated emergency rescue and traffic control operations.

Working alongside other emergency responders, LASTMA operatives successfully rescued the victims and handed them over to officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention.

The agency described the operation as part of its continued commitment to saving lives, improving road safety, and ensuring effective traffic management across the state.

It added that the crash scene was secured to prevent further incidents, while officers of the Nigeria Police Force provided security and crowd control during the rescue operation.

To ease congestion, LASTMA also evacuated the damaged vehicles and implemented diversion measures to restore normal traffic flow along the route.

Commending the rescue team, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki praised their quick response and professionalism.

He also urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated trucks and commercial buses, to adopt defensive driving and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, stressing that road safety remains a shared responsibility.
