Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State.
Makinde also raised concerns about the condition of military equipment and the welfare of security personnel under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The NAF ATR-42 aircraft crashed near the Igbokoda Naval Base in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday while travelling from Benin to Lagos.

The Nigerian Air Force later confirmed that all 25 people on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers, died in the crash.
Makinde raises military welfare concerns
In a statement by the Director of Strategic Communications of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, Richard Ihediwa, the campaign commended members of the military for their sacrifices before raising concerns over the latest incident.
“The crash of military aircraft in Nigeria under the Tinubu administration is a serious national issue that again raises questions on the subjects of equipping as well as welfare of our military and other security agencies under this administration, despite the enormous resources at its disposal,” Ihediwa said.

The campaign also referred to the August 2023 crash involving a Nigerian Air Force helicopter in Shiroro, Niger State, during a casualty evacuation operation for wounded troops.
“Indeed, given the resources available, our military ought to be among the best equipped and remunerated across the world,” the campaign organisation said.
However, the circumstances surrounding the latest crash have not been established, with the Nigerian Air Force ordering a detailed investigation into the accident.
Makinde promises military reforms
The campaign organisation said training, equipment and welfare for the military and other security agencies would receive priority if Makinde becomes President.
It also expressed condolences to the military and the families of those who died in the Ondo crash.
The campaign called for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident and urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country and its military.
The MDPCO also urged Nigerians to use the 2027 general election to reject what it described as the “misrule” of the Tinubu administration and vote for Makinde under the APM platform.
The statement and its criticism of the current administration represent the position of Makinde’s campaign organisation ahead of the 2027 election.
