Man City Reject Barcelona’s £38.5 Million Rodri Bid

Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s opening £38.5 million ($52 million) bid for Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, popularly known as Rodri, as the Spanish midfielder’s future at the club remains uncertain.

The 30-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and has been linked with a return to Spain after a successful spell in England.

City are reportedly demanding around £68 million for the World Cup winner, who was named Player of the Tournament at the recent World Cup in North America.

While Real Madrid had previously appeared to be the favourite to sign Rodri, Barcelona have now moved into a stronger position in the race for the midfielder’s signature.

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and played a key role in the club’s success, winning multiple Premier League titles and the 2023 UEFA Champions League under former manager Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish midfielder also helped Spain win Euro 2024 and claimed the Ballon d’Or that same year before a serious knee injury limited his appearances during the 2024/25 season.

With his contract situation unresolved, Rodri’s next move has become one of the biggest transfer stories ahead of the new season.
