French club Monaco has confirmed the dismissal of Belgian coach Sébastien Pocognoli after less than eight months in charge, following a disappointing end to the season.

The club stated that the collaboration with Pocognoli had ended at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 campaign.

“AS Monaco announces the end of its collaboration with Sebastien Pocognoli at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season,” the club said in a statement.

Although he still had a year left on his contract, the decision was linked to Monaco’s seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, which meant they missed out on Champions League qualification. The club will instead compete in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Conference League play-offs.

Pocognoli, 38, arrived at Monaco in October from Union Saint-Gilloise, replacing Adi Hütter. Despite a difficult start, he briefly revived the team’s form with a 10-match unbeaten run that pushed them into top-three contention, but a late-season collapse ultimately cost them a Champions League place.

The club confirmed that he leaves alongside his assistants Kevin Mirallas and Artur Kopyt, while three other members of the technical staff had already been dismissed in recent days.

Media reports suggest that former Chelsea and Atlético Madrid defender Filipe Luís is the leading candidate to take over. The 40-year-old left Flamengo in March after guiding the Brazilian side to Copa Libertadores success last year.
