Naira Weakens Again at Official Foreign Exchange Market

The naira slipped back into depreciation territory against the dollar at the official foreign exchange window, closing the week with a decline.

Figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria revealed that the naira weakened to ₦1,539.24 per dollar on Friday, down from ₦1,536.08 on Thursday—a daily loss of ₦3.12.

This latest dip followed Thursday’s notable surge, when the naira had clawed back ₦13.18 against the greenback at the official market.

Naira Falls Further Against Dollar at Black Market

Over at the black market, however, the naira showed resilience, strengthening to ₦1,570 per dollar, compared to Thursday’s rate of ₦1,580.

Taking the week as a whole, the naira ended stronger by ₦8.12 at the official market and ₦30 at the black market, relative to last Friday’s rates of ₦1,547.36 and ₦1,600 respectively, as at 20 June 2025.
