Nairobi Bids to Host 2029 World Championships

Nairobi has formally submitted its bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, aiming to become the first African city to stage the sport’s premier event.

The Kenyan capital faces stiff competition for the hosting rights from major European cities, including London, Rome, and Munich.

The Kenyan government has pledged complete backing for the ambitious bid, guaranteeing all necessary infrastructure, security, and organisational resources.

Nairobi brings substantial hosting experience to the table, having successfully staged the 2010 African Athletics Championships, the 2017 World Under-18 Championships, and the 2021 World Under-20 Championships, alongside Mombasa’s hosting of the 2007 World Cross Country Championships.

World Athletics plans to officially select and announce the winning host city in September.
