The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has cautioned Nigerians against fraudulent offers advertising forfeited vehicles for sale at unusually low prices.
In a statement issued on Friday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said criminal elements were impersonating senior NDLEA officials to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the agency, the fraudsters have been using the name of the NDLEA Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, to circulate fake letters and messages claiming that vehicles seized by the agency are available for purchase through special offers.
Babafemi described the claims as entirely false, stressing that no NDLEA official has the authority to privately sell or allocate forfeited vehicles or any other assets recovered from drug-related crimes.

He explained that all forfeited assets are disposed of only through transparent public auctions conducted by duly appointed and government-approved auctioneers.
The agency added that any genuine auction would be publicly announced through national newspapers and the NDLEA’s official communication channels in line with legal and procurement procedures.
NDLEA urged Nigerians to disregard and report any private messages, letters or social media posts claiming to offer forfeited vehicles on behalf of the agency or its officials.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in its operations and advised members of the public to report such fraudulent activities to the nearest NDLEA office or through its official communication channels.
