Netflix has appointed Jay Hoag as chairman of its board of directors, the streaming company said in a filing to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), following the departure of co-founder Reed Hastings.
Hoag assumed the role after the company’s annual shareholder meeting, according to Netflix.
The company had announced in April that Hastings would step down at the end of his term to focus on philanthropy and other personal interests.

Hastings co-founded Netflix nearly three decades ago and served as chief executive for 25 years, during which he transformed the company from a DVD rental-by-mail service into a global streaming giant.
Hoag has been a Netflix director since 1999 and served as lead independent director for more than a decade. He also sits on the boards of Zillow and fitness company Peloton.
