Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for empowering millions of Nigerian women.
The First Lady feted the minister for her role in women’s empowerment at the National Women’s Mega Empowerment Rally on Tuesday.
“I am delighted to join you here at today’s National Women’s Mega Empowerment Rally. It gladdens my heart to see women from all across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory, in large numbers, united in one voice in support of national progress, peace and prosperity,” she said.
“I commend the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and her entire team for organising this programme and also for inviting me to be part of history with what we are witnessing today.”
She described the event as a historic gathering, adding that the last time Nigerian women gathered in such numbers was during the time of Laila Dongoyaro, a revered Nigerian women’s rights activist, politician, and community leader.

“Nigerian women have not gathered in this number since the times of Laila Dongoyaro, and I thank you so much for invoking that spirit once more because women every year have to come together just in support to discuss issues that pertain to us, and I think this is just the beginning,” she added.
“The significance of this gathering cannot be overstated. Women represent over 50% of the population; we are uniquely positioned to influence change and contribute to our quota in steering the nation towards a greater future. I recall my charge to the Honourable Minister when she was appointed.”
The First Lady added that she had advised the minister to channel financial resources to women when she was appointed.
“I told her I understand all the programmes you are doing, they are laudable, but go and put money in the hands of women, and she has done that today. Before we got here, we’ve gone to the ground where empowerment equipment is being given to the women, and this is just the beginning.”
The programme targeted women across all 774 local government areas of Nigeria, with a focus on providing grants, skills development, and enterprise support to enhance economic inclusion and sustainability.
