The National Union of Container and Freight Trucks Hauliers of Nigeria (NUCFTHN) has been officially launched to represent truck drivers and promote reforms in Nigeria’s freight and logistics sector.

The new union was inaugurated in Abuja on Friday, months after receiving government approval to begin operations.

The NUCFTHN was created to provide hauliers with a recognised platform to address issues affecting truck drivers, including welfare, safety, working conditions, and professional development.

It stated that Nigerian truck drivers deserve a stronger voice and better representation within the logistics industry.

General Secretary of NUCFTHN, Capt. Evalsam Awara.

Speaking on the importance of the new body, the General Secretary of NUCFTHN, Capt. Evalsam Awara said truckers must support a union that prioritises the welfare of its members while also ensuring the safety of other road users and stakeholders.

Awara said: “Truck drivers in Nigeria deserve one united, recognised and respected sector based union, to protect their interests, welfare, dignity and future.”
