Most polling units in the Okitipupa Local Government Area recorded low voter turnout on Saturday as accreditation and voting got underway in the Ondo South Senatorial by-election.

At polling units 5, 7 and 8, Ikoya/Igbinsin-Oloto Ward, voters were seen checking their names while accreditation and voting proceeded simultaneously, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Despite the low turnout, INEC staff performed their duties in an orderly manner.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were on ground to provide security at polling units across the area.

The by-election is holding across the six local government areas of Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Odigbo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo.
