Three construction workers died, and four others suffered severe injuries when a two-storey shopping complex under construction collapsed late Friday night in Owode-Ede, Osun State.

The victims, who were tiling apprentices, had stayed overnight to resume work the following morning.

Emergency responders from the Federal Fire Service, police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an 11:00 p.m. distress call, continuing search operations into early Saturday morning.

Rescuers recovered three bodies from the rubble and transported five survivors to a local private hospital in Ede, where four remain admitted with serious fractures.

Fire Service Commandant Femi Isaac confirmed that the workers had previously expressed concerns about the structural stability of the building.

The senior apprentice reportedly warned his colleagues against sleeping on the upper floor just moments before the structure gave way.

The building’s owner, who resides nearby, witnessed the overnight rescue efforts as authorities commenced an investigation into the collapse.
