Spain’s interior ministry confirmed on Friday that more than 48,000 migrants have returned to Morocco after entering its North African enclave of Ceuta in recent days.

The mass border crossing prompted swift response measures to manage the sudden influx across the frontier.

The ministry stated that 48,300 individuals had crossed back over the border as of 6:00 pm local time.

Authorities continue to oversee the return process as conditions along the border stabilise.
