Nigerian activist and 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has threatened to stage a protest at Nigeria’s seat of power, Aso Rock Villa, if the teachers and pupils abducted by terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo State are not released.

It has been a week since over 40 children, aged between 2 and 17, were abducted from their school in Oriire on May 16. One of the abducted teachers was killed by the terrorists, while families of the victims have appealed to the government to secure their release.

Videos of the abductees appealing to the government and the public have also surfaced on social media.

Sowore, in a post shared on X on Saturday, said he would “occupy Aso Rock Villa” this week if President Bola Tinubu’s administration fails to track down the terrorists and secure the release of the abductees.

“If Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT and his service chiefs fail to track down and secure the release of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and other kidnapped people, we will have no choice but to occupy Aso Rock Villa this week!,” Sowore wrote.

The abduction in Oriire has triggered outrage among Nigerians, who have criticised the government over worsening insecurity in the country.

School abductions are increasingly becoming a recurring challenge in Nigeria.
