 Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has been declared the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 general elections.

The party’s national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, presented the party’s flag to Obi at a special convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

The event drew party chieftains, including former Kano State Governor and Senator Musa Kwankwaso and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, along with other stakeholders from across the country.

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, made a high-profile move to the NDC earlier this year. His adoption positions him as a leading opposition figure seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election.
