A helicopter has crashed in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, with several people feared dead, according to the state police command.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, and caused panic among residents of the coastal community.

The identity of the helicopter and the number of people on board could not be immediately ascertained, as details of the crash remained unclear.

DSP Jimoh Abayomi, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying the circumstances were still being established.

“The details surrounding the incident are still emerging, as efforts to establish the full circumstances continue,” Abayomi said.

He called on residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

“The Command urges members of the public, particularly residents of Igbokoda and adjoining communities, to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information,” he said.

“The public will be duly informed as soon as further credible information becomes available.”
