The Nigeria Police Force has deployed Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Commissioner of Police for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, as part of efforts to strengthen security ahead of the poll.

The deployment, announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, is part of the police’s election security strategy to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public of the deployment of Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, to Osun State as CP Elections, in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election,” the statement said.

According to the police, Etaifo’s assignment is specifically for the election, while the substantive Commissioner of Police in Osun, CP Ibrahim Gotan, will remain in charge of the state’s day-to-day policing.

Iniedu said Etaifo would oversee and coordinate election security operations across the state, working in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials.

The Force clarified that the deployment does not amount to a change in the state’s police leadership.

“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, remains in charge of the State Command and will continue to supervise routine policing activities, while providing necessary administrative and operational support for the CP Election.”

The Inspector-General of Police also reminded officers assigned to election duty to carry out their responsibilities professionally and impartially.

“Personnel deployed for election duties are reminded to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and strict compliance with the law, including the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty,” the statement said.

The police further appealed to residents, political parties and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.

The deployment comes as security agencies intensify preparations for the Osun governorship election, a poll expected to attract heightened political activity across the state.
