The Delta State Police Command has impounded 21 vehicles during an intelligence-led enforcement operation targeting traffic and security violations in Abraka and Ozoro.
The operation, conducted on July 21, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations as part of efforts to improve public safety and enforce traffic regulations across the state.
According to the command, the affected vehicles were impounded for offences including failure to display registration number plates, using covered number plates and operating with expired vehicle documents.
“On 21st July 2026, at about 1500 hours, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, led command operatives on an enforcement patrol targeting traffic violations and other offences,” the police said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
It added that 21 vehicles were impounded for various offences, including non-display of registration number plates, covered number plates, and expired vehicle particulars.
The command said the affected vehicles would undergo “the appropriate legal and administrative processes” in line with existing laws.
Commenting on the exercise, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, said vehicles without proper identification or valid documentation constitute security threats because they can be used to facilitate criminal activities.
The police commissioner urged motorists to ensure full compliance with existing traffic and vehicle registration regulations to avoid sanctions.
He also added that the command would sustain intelligence-driven enforcement operations across the state.
“The command will continue intelligence-led enforcement operations across the State to promote public safety, strengthen security, and ensure strict compliance with the law,” Oyeniyi said.
The latest operation forms part of the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety, enforce traffic laws and enhance security by identifying vehicles operating without proper registration or valid documentation.
