Real Madrid have completed the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth around €55 million ($63.8 million), marking one of the club’s early summer transfer moves as they reshape their squad.
“Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will join our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032,” the Spanish giants confirmed the agreement in an official statement on Monday.
The 27-year-old defender arrives after two seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he joined from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 following earlier development at Barcelona’s academy and a spell at Getafe. His move to Madrid represents a return to Spain’s elite football circuit at club level after a turbulent Premier League stint.
Cucurella is currently on international duty with Spain at the World Cup, where he is notably the only Real Madrid player in Luis de la Fuente’s squad, underlining the timing of the transfer during a major international tournament.

At club level, Cucurella leaves Chelsea after a mixed spell that included silverware, notably the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League in 2025. However, the team endured a difficult Premier League campaign last season, finishing 10th, with internal decisions including the dismissal of Enzo Maresca drawing scrutiny.
Real Madrid, under re-elected president Florentino Pérez, continue an aggressive recruitment phase following a trophyless period across two seasons.
The club recently appointed José Mourinho as head coach and is also linked with several high-profile targets, including Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, and Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are expected to reassess their defensive options following Cucurella’s departure, which removes a key squad figure despite his inconsistent form in England.
