Portugal Beat Norway 2-1, Ronaldo Benched

Portugal defeated Norway 2-1 in the Nations League, with Cristiano Ronaldo remaining an unused substitute throughout Sunday’s match.

João Félix opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games before Erling Haaland equalised early in the second half. The goal was Haaland’s 65th for Norway and his 22nd in the Nations League, extending his record as the competition’s leading scorer.

Portugal quickly regained the lead after Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland made a costly mistake.

Nyland played the ball directly to Gonçalo Ramos, who calmly chipped the goalkeeper to put Portugal 2-1 ahead. Ramos appeared to score again later in the match, but VAR ruled it offside after another mistake by Nyland.

Ronaldo watched from the bench as he continued his pursuit of 1,000 career goals. The Portugal captain remains 21 goals short of the landmark.

Portugal were also without Bruno Fernandes, who missed the match through injury. The victory gave Portugal two wins from two in this season’s Nations League campaign.

Norway, meanwhile, were left to rue costly mistakes from their goalkeeper as Portugal secured another win.
