Russia fired 68 missiles and 351 attack drones into Ukrainian apartment buildings on Monday, killing at least 26 people and injuring over 100 on the eve of a crucial NATO summit.

The massive bombardment struck the capital city of Kyiv and the nearby town of Vyshneve for the second time in a week, punching craters into residential blocks and destroying dozens of homes.

Russian drone and missile strikes also killed four additional people in the regions of Sumy and Zaporizhzhia. At the same time, Moscow’s defence ministry claimed the operation targeted Ukrainian military-industrial and energy facilities.

The latest wave of ballistic terror prompted President Volodymyr Zelensky to decry Russia’s brutal, unchanging tactics of inflicting maximum pain.

He pleaded with NATO allies to immediately boost Ukraine’s air defences, noting that while Kyiv successfully downs cruise missiles and drones, it lacks the specialised interceptors needed to stop advanced ballistic missiles.

Zelensky stated that he expects concrete decisions on air defence supplies during the upcoming NATO summit in Türkiye, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss ending the war.

Meanwhile, Ukraine retaliated by launching upgraded, long-range “Fire Point” drones to strike an oil refinery in Russia’s distant Omsk region, located 2,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.

The Ukrainian general staff confirmed the refinery supplies fuel to the Russian occupation army, and Zelensky declared that Siberia now sits within reach of Ukrainian precision.

While Moscow claimed its forces shot down over 500 Ukrainian drones overnight, the deep-territory strike highlights an aggressive new phase of the conflict as US-led peace initiatives struggle to gain traction.
