Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said that Mohamed Salah “deserves a big send-off” as he prepares to leave Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
Slot confirmed that the Egyptian forward, who had to leave the pitch during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend, is expected to return from a minor muscle injury before the season concludes. The injury raised concerns that Salah may have already played his final game for the club, especially after an emotional exit, during which the 33-year-old was given a standing ovation by the fans.
Salah’s departure from Liverpool had been widely anticipated for some time, and his injury added to the uncertainty. However, the club alleviated those concerns earlier this week, confirming that Salah’s injury was not serious and that he would be back in action soon.
“We expect him to be back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday,” said Slot during his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United. “He’s a quick healer, and it’s a big relief that the injury is minor.”
The manager also highlighted how much Salah deserves a fitting farewell, adding, “If there’s ever a player who deserves to get a big send-off, it’s definitely Mo.”

Salah has netted 257 goals in 440 appearances since joining Liverpool in 2017, placing him third in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Slot also spoke about Liverpool’s pursuit of Champions League qualification, which has become a priority after their shaky title defence this season.
Despite being knocked out of the title race since late September, Liverpool currently sits fourth, three points behind third-placed Manchester United. With four games left, they are determined to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
“Qualifying for the Champions League is vital, especially for a club like ours,” Slot noted. “It’s the right step to make after a turbulent season.”
Slot was asked if he thought he had been judged too harshly in light of Liverpool’s success last season, to which he responded, “It’s for you guys to judge, but I’m focused on my players and whether they execute well.”
Additionally, Slot confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been sidelined since March, is nearing a return to training, though the club is being cautious to avoid any unnecessary risks.
