Human rights activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the home of Borno South Youth Alliance President, Samaila Kaigama, and subjected him to degrading treatment while in custody.
In a post shared on X on Friday, Sowore claimed that heavily armed DSS operatives stormed Kaigama’s residence at about 4 p.m. in two Hilux vehicles, where they allegedly searched the premises in an attempt to obtain evidence for prosecution.
“Lawless DSS operatives today stormed the home of BOYSA President, Samaila Kaigama at about 4 p.m in two Hilux vehicles, heavily armed, and proceeded to ransack the house,” Sowore wrote.
According to the activist, Kaigama said the operatives “chained his legs during the operation and searched the entire premises, insisting they needed evidence to charge him to court.”
“Despite the exhaustive search, they reportedly found nothing,” Sowore added.
Sowore also alleged that Kaigama has continued to suffer abuse while in DSS custody.
He claimed the youth leader alleged that “he has been denied food and forced to drink water from the toilet, all in an effort to pressure him into surrendering evidence in his possession.”
According to Sowore, Kaigama has refused to yield to the alleged pressure.
“He has remained resolute, insisting that he will only present whatever evidence he has in a court of law after he has been formally charged,” he wrote.
The DSS has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report, and the claims have not been independently verified.
Kaigama had accused Ndume of acting as an intermediary in negotiations linked to the release of residents of Ngoshe, Borno State, who were abducted by terrorists.
Ndume has strongly denied the allegation, insisting he neither negotiated with the kidnappers nor handled any ransom payment.
The senator said his only role was notifying security agencies after Kaigama informed him of a video in which the insurgents allegedly demanded a ₦5 billion ransom for the captives.
