Spain Bring in Le Normand to Replace Garcia

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente called up centre-back Robin Le Normand to the Nations League squad Sunday following an injury to defender Eric Garcia.

Garcia initially made the starting lineup for Spain’s 3-2 victory against England at Wembley before pulling out at the last moment, forcing Marc Pubill to replace him on the pitch.

The Spanish football federation issued a statement confirming that Garcia “felt some discomfort in his left knee, and, after undergoing tests, it was decided to withdraw him from the squad for the upcoming internationals, to avoid any risks.”

De la Fuente downplayed long-term concerns following the Wembley match, reassuring supporters that Garcia’s knee issue was “nothing serious.”

Le Normand, who last featured for Spain nearly a year ago, rejoins the squad ahead of Tuesday’s match against Croatia in Seville.

Although the French-born defender won Euro 2024 with Spain, de la Fuente had left him out of the World Cup roster earlier this year.
