Nigeria’s Super Falcons have risen to the 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking and are the top-ranked team in Africa.
The ranking report was released on Tuesday, April 21, showing a small improvement from the team’s 37th position in the December 2025 ranking.
Also, it reflects two pre-WAFCON friendlies against Cameroon, in which it first lost 1–0 in February, then won 3–1 in March 2026. Just three days after a narrow 1–0 defeat in the first encounter, the 10-time African champions came back with a sharper, more combative display to turn the numbers in their favour.

Furthermore, Nigerian footballer, Chinwendu Ihezuo drew Nigeria level in the 32nd minute, scoring with a header from a well-placed cross delivered by Rinsola Babajide. Just before the break, Babajide pounced on a loose ball inside the box to fire the Falcons into a 2–1 lead. Then, in the 64th minute, captain Ajibade’s teasing cross met the flying head of Michelle Alozie, 3–1, sealing the game.
In April, the win raised the team’s score by 3.35 points to 1602, but it was still 5 points short of the 1607 recorded in December 2025. Behind the Falcons in Africa are South Africa, Ghana, and Morocco, which are ranked 58th, 59th, and 62nd globally, respectively.
Globally, Spain holds the top spot, followed by the United States, England, Germany, and Japan.
