Suspected Ansaru fighters attacked a military base in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three soldiers and injuring four others, including a local vigilante, intelligence sources and residents said.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. in Kemanji, a village near the Kainji National Park where Ansaru terrorists are known to use as hideouts.
According to a forest guard who fights alongside military operatives, the attackers came directly to the military camp and opened fire on soldiers.
“The terrorists came directly to the military camp and opened fire on soldiers,” the guard told Premium Times.
“They killed three soldiers and injured four (three soldiers and a local vigilante).”

The assailants also carted away eight operational motorcycles and a gun truck, sources said.
A vigilante member in the village said soldiers killed many of the terrorists during the exchange.
Sources specifically linked the attack to Ansaru fighters, who have previously engaged security forces in intense gunfights in the village, even though other terrorist organisations operate in the area.
Kwara State’s police and military authorities have not made any formal statements regarding the incident.
