Three Nigerian police officers have died after their vehicle hit an explosive device planted by terrorists in Zamfara State on Monday.
The media aide to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Mugira Yusuf, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to Yusuf, the officers were conducting a routine patrol targeting bandits along the Anka–Bagega axis when one of their armoured personnel carriers (APC) ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists.
The officers who lost their lives in the explosion were Superintendent of Police Abdulrazak Hassan, Inspector Murtala Musa, and Inspector Auwal Ahmad.
All three were trained explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts attached to the Zamfara State Police Command.

Yusuf added that armed men reportedly emerged from a nearby forest and set the damaged armoured vehicle ablaze before fleeing into the bush.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, in a statement issued on Tuesday, mourned the deaths of the officers, noting that their courage and professionalism would remain a lasting legacy within the force.
“These courageous officers stood at the forefront of service, confronting danger with exceptional courage and professionalism,” Abubakar said.
“We pray that Almighty God grants them eternal rest, comforts their families, and gives strength to their colleagues.”
