President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Kaduna State on Saturday for the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag-off of its 2027 presidential campaign.

Tinubu arrived with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, while Shettima was accompanied by his wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other party officials received the President at the airport.

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad disclosed Tinubu’s arrival in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the APC National Chairman and the campaign’s Director-General were at the airport to welcome him.

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, also confirmed the arrival in a separate post.

He added that the President was received by Shettima and the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

Shettima’s arrival was announced by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, who serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.

Nkwocha said APC governors, party leaders, elected officials, political stakeholders and supporters were gathering at Kaduna Township Stadium for the launch of the party’s nationwide presidential campaign.

He described the rally as an opportunity for the APC to present its “Renewed Hope 2.0” agenda and highlight the Tinubu administration’s achievements.

“The stage is set. Kaduna is ready. The 2027 campaign begins!” Nkwocha’s statement read, adding that the President’s arrival had set the stage for the campaign in the Northwest.

Earlier on Saturday, security agencies blocked key locations across Kaduna metropolis ahead of the President’s visit.

Personnel from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and Kaduna State Vigilance Service were deployed at major junctions and roads leading to the rally venue.

Muhammadu Buhari Way, formerly known as WAFF Road, was blocked by security operatives along the route expected to be used by the President and his entourage.

The Ahmadu Bello Stadium roundabout was also manned by armed soldiers, police officers and plain-clothes operatives.

The security measures disrupted traffic across parts of the city, with congestion stretching from Junction Road to Ahmadu Bello Way. Motorists and commuters were left stranded as movement was restricted along some major routes.

The rally marks the start of the APC’s presidential campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election, with party leaders and support groups expected to mobilise behind Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
