The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday hold a world press conference and national stakeholders’ meeting as the countdown to the 2027 General Election reaches 100 days.
The event is scheduled for October 6 in Abuja and will provide an opportunity for INEC to update Nigerians on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the commission said the meeting would also provide a platform for engagement with key stakeholders.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, to mark 100 days to the 2027 General Election.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement said.

Amupitan to address stakeholders
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the event alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
INEC said the national stakeholders’ meeting was part of its commitment to transparency, public communication and engagement with actors involved in the elections.
The meeting is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and civil society organisations.
Also expected are election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
INEC 2027 election preparations
The meeting comes as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 General Election.
The commission’s published timetable lists February 20, 2027, as the date for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
The electoral calendar includes activities such as party primaries, candidate nominations, publication of the voters’ register and other pre-election processes.
INEC has also stated that its mandate under Amupitan is to deliver free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections. The commission’s official website identifies Amupitan as its chairman, following his swearing-in on October 23, 2025.
The October 6 engagement will therefore bring INEC together with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, observers and other stakeholders as preparations continue for the 2027 polls.
