Tipper Crushes Motorcyclist to Death in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist was crushed to death by a tipper truck at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.

The accident occurred at about 3:18 pm on Thursday and involved a sand-laden tipper truck marked 19F 992FG and a motorcycle.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was immediately deployed after the agency received a distress call, with an estimated arrival time of 15 minutes.

Tipper driver allegedly lost control

Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary findings indicated that the accident occurred after the tipper driver allegedly lost control and rammed into the motorcycle from behind.

“Tragically, an adult male passenger on the motorcycle lost his life as a result of the collision,” he said.

LASEMA responders, working with the agency’s Lagos Response Unit paramedics, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the police, managed the scene.

The agency said the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to family members present at the scene.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the tipper truck and motorcycle were removed from the carriageway and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.

Traffic restored

The Permanent Secretary said the emergency operation had been concluded and normal traffic flow restored in the area.

He commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to the safety of lives and property and will continue to ensure rapid emergency response across the state,” he said.
