Troops of the 17th Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, recovering weapons and other items, the Army said.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Abayomi Adisa, the Army said troops intensified offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the state and had taken blocking positions along the route as part of ongoing operations when the ambush happened.
It added that the operation was carried out by soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA along the Turare-Kitibawa-Kuka-Mai Damusa Road on Friday night.
According to the statement, the suspected terrorists, who were fleeing military operations in the Matazu area, were intercepted at about 21:40 hours on May 9, 2026.

The Army said the encounter led to the neutralisation of three terrorists, while weapons and other items were recovered at the scene.
“Three terrorists were neutralised while one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and a cash sum of N3,500 were recovered,”the statement read.
The statement added that troops have continued sustained operations against criminal groups in the area.
It further said the military remains committed to restoring peace in the state and urged residents to provide credible intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
