Nigerian troops have rescued 119 civilians abducted by terrorists and recovered eight vehicles during an operation in the northeastern state of Borno, the military said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, who spotted the abductions while monitoring surveillance cameras along the Dutsen Kura-Bulazarma-Kamuya road, according to an operational report made available to journalists in Abuja.
The troops mobilised through Mangari-Dora in Biu Local Government Area and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the civilians and flee, the report said.
The rescued people were reunited with their families, while eight vehicles were recovered.
The troops also discovered and detonated an improvised explosive device near the Bam-Buratai Junction-Bulazarma area, the report added.

In a separate incident in Borno, a suspected fighter of Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), also known as Boko Haram, surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion at Ngurusoye village in Bama Local Government Area.
The report said the suspect had fled his group’s enclave in Bula Daloye after clashes with rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters and amid hardship.
He surrendered with an FN rifle and seven rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and was taken into military custody.
Troops and members of the Hybrid Force also arrested a suspected terrorist informant and collaborator in Ngamdu town on November 5, the report said.
