Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic in Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, his family and 21 other abducted civilians during separate operations.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FansannYamma, Aliyu Danja, in a statement issued on Wednesday, disclosed that the operations were carried out on July 28 following distress calls about terrorist attacks in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area and Barkeji Village.
According to the task force, terrorists invaded the residence of the polytechnic rector in the early hours of Tuesday, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct him and members of his family.
Troops were said to have responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a gun battle that forced them to abandon the operation.
Danja said troops recorded another success later the same day after receiving a distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were reportedly attempting to abduct residents.
Although difficult terrain initially slowed the troops’ advance, the soldiers caught up with the fleeing gunmen and disrupted the operation.
In a simultaneous operation within the same community, troops confronted another group of terrorists attempting to kidnap a businessman, identified as Alhaji Azaria.
The intervention forced the attackers to flee, while the businessman and 21 other civilians abducted from nearby homes were rescued.
The military also announced the arrest of a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have collaborated with the attackers.
The suspect has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation and further action.
