Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and the United States (US) Embassy in Kyiv have warned of a possible major Russian airstrike in the coming hours.
Zelensky disclosed this on X, saying intelligence reports from Ukraine and Western partners suggest Russia may be preparing a combined attack, including the possible use of the Oreshnik missile, a nuclear-capable weapon.
“Our intelligence services reported receiving data, including from American and European partners, about Russia preparing a strike with the Oreshnik missile”.

He said authorities are still verifying the information, but warned that Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine could be targeted.
“We are seeing signs of preparation for a combined strike on Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv, involving various types of weaponry.”

According to AFP, the US embassy in Kyiv, in a message posted on its website, also issued an alert, saying it had received information about a “potentially significant air attack” that could occur within 24 hours, advising citizens across Ukraine to stay alert and seek shelter during air raid warnings. They added that the alert applies to all parts of Ukraine.
The warnings come after reports that Russian authorities said the death toll from a Ukrainian strike on a college in a Russian-occupied area of eastern Ukraine has risen to 18. Russia has recently carried out military drills involving nuclear-capable weapons, raising tensions further in the ongoing war.
