The United States announced new sanctions on Wednesday targeting entities linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, accusing them of extorting commercial ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Treasury and State Departments revealed that the regime forces are forcing vessels to purchase mandatory maritime insurance from Guard-backed entities to avoid vessel seizures.
The action came as President Donald Trump warned of hard-hitting US strikes against Iran following a missile attack on American bases in Jordan.
The sanctions directly target the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and the HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority for operating the coercive scheme.
Additionally, Washington sanctioned eight companies operating “shadow fleet” ships that illegally transport Iranian crude oil and petrochemicals to China and the United Arab Emirates.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that the cash-desperate regime is manufacturing maritime risks to fund its failing economy amidst hyperinflation.
