Venezuela’s death toll from June’s twin earthquakes rose to 6,301 on Monday as rescue teams and families continued searching through the rubble.

National Assembly Chief Jorge Rodriguez announced the updated count, which increased from the previous report of 6,125.

The 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude quakes destroyed roughly 190 buildings, leaving approximately 24,000 people homeless and living in temporary camps.

While the central government has not released an official count of the missing, Governor Jose Alejandro Teran of the hardest-hit state of La Guaira estimated that around 1,400 people remain unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, a fresh 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck neighbouring Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people and injuring 87, according to Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella.
