The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced on Thursday that the deadly cruise ship-linked hantavirus outbreak is officially over, resolving a crisis that had sparked international alarm.
Global health officials made the declaration immediately after the last remaining passenger completed their mandatory quarantine period and tested clear of the virus.

WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared the positive development during a formal press conference.
Today, the final contact of a person exposed to #hantavirus on the cruise ship MV Hondius completed their quarantine period, tested negative and returned home. No further cases have been reported since the 25th of May. Therefore, @WHO considers the hantavirus outbreak over. pic.twitter.com/ePQnylyo0k
