The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised opposition groups, saying recent road projects in Abuja have improved mobility and access across the city.

Wike, speaking during the commissioning of the Jahi–Gwarimpa interchange and road project in Abuja on Thursday, defended ongoing infrastructure developments under the current administration.

He contrasted present-day road access with past conditions, claiming that key routes to parts of the country were previously difficult and restricted.

“And let me say to the national chairman, in quotes… I know Dave DeMack is the chairman of one of the factions,” he said.

Wike referenced former Senate leadership and road conditions in Makurdi, arguing that earlier administrations failed to provide adequate infrastructure.

“The poor people could not afford to go to Makurdi. Why? There was no road,” he said.

He added that current improvements have made travel easier, claiming that citizens can now move freely by road due to completed projects.

“But today, by this administration, we can now drive freely to Makurdi,” he said.

The minister also criticised opposition politicians, suggesting they benefited from privileges in the past while ordinary citizens struggled.

“The chairman of the faction cannot say he is no longer using a helicopter going to Makurdi… he is now driving by road,” he said.

Wike urged Nigerians to acknowledge the progress made in infrastructure delivery, saying that results should be judged by performance over time.

“People should understand that when you have nothing to offer, people have nothing to offer,” he added.
