The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said all ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja will be completed regardless of political distractions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the flag-off of a road project in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said President Bola Tinubu had directed the FCT Administration to ensure that every project promised to residents is delivered on schedule.

“Like we said in the morning, Mr President has given the directive. All must be done whether politics is across the corner or not,” Wike said.

“We must complete every assignment. We must fulfil all the promises we have made to the people of the FCT.”

The minister made the remarks while explaining the significance of the road project, which he said was initiated in response to complaints from the Body of Benchers about persistent traffic congestion affecting legal practitioners attending call-to-bar ceremonies.

According to him, the chairman of the Body of Benchers had appealed to the FCT Administration to address the traffic challenges around the area.

“Our attention was drawn by the Body of Benchers during the call to bar of our legal practitioners,” Wike said.

“During the call-to-bar ceremony, the Chairman of the Body of Benchers pleaded with the FCT Administration because of the traffic problem coming for bar ceremonies, that it was necessary for that road to be put in place. And we did that.”

He said the project would ease traffic congestion around the area and improve access to nearby institutions.

“We are happy to have completed that today. We are continuing with this so that we no longer have traffic jams for those coming to the Body of Benchers, ceremonies and other institutions in the area,” he said.

Wike also disclosed that the construction firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), had assured the administration that the road would be completed by January 2027.

“Be assured that, by the grace of God, CCECC has assured us that latest January they will complete this road, and we believe we will bring you back here to represent Mr President again to commission this route,” he said.

The road project is part of a series of infrastructure works being undertaken by the FCT Administration as Abuja marks its 30th anniversary.
