The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at critics of his administration, saying those who refuse to acknowledge ongoing development projects “may never see”.

Wike made the remarks on Thursday while commissioning the newly constructed Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) to Tunga Madaki, where he emphasised that government exists primarily to solve citizens’ problems.

“Your Excellency, after all, what is government? Why are we in government? We came to government to solve problems for the people. We came to government to solve problems of challenges,” he said.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the impact of newly completed infrastructure, noting that the projects were connecting communities and improving access across local government areas.

Taking a more combative tone, Wike criticised those he accused of deliberately ignoring development efforts.

“Those who say they don’t see, may God never allow them to see,” he declared.

“Those who intentionally, when God has given you eyes to see what is happening, to see development coming to satellite town and you say you are not seeing, may you never see again.”

Wike also reflected on his personal connection to grassroots communities, saying their reactions to development differ from those in the city.

“For those of us, for those of us who are from communities, we feel so happy. Not from those of us, those of you who are from the city, who are from the community, we know how we feel when development gets to us,” he added.

“But for those of you in the city, you are used to it; you don’t even care. We from the community were always elated when we see government coming closer to us.”

Thursday marked the seventh day of Wike’s 30-day project commissioning across the FCT.
