Zimbabwean authorities recovered eight more bodies from Lake Kariba on Monday, raising the death toll from last week’s catastrophic ferry disaster to 92.
The vessel capsized on Tuesday during rough weather on the vast lake bordering Zambia.
Although licensed to carry only 90 people, officials revealed that the overloaded boat carried at least 114 adult passengers, five crew members, and an unrecorded number of children, alongside heavy commercial cargo and fuel drums.
Search and recovery teams—including over 40 police sub-aqua divers operating four rescue boats—continue searching the waters for remaining victims.

Survivors reported that the captain ignored explicit passenger warnings about severe overcrowding and dangerous conditions before the accident.
They also noted that crew members stowed life jackets beneath heavy cargo, leaving fewer than 30 passengers able to retrieve safety equipment when the vessel overturned.
