At least 16 people have been rescued alive after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
Three of those rescued were unconscious at the time they were pulled from the rubble.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
The service said its Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 4:32 am on Saturday reporting the collapse.
Firefighters from the service headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found that a residential building measuring about 20 by 30 feet had collapsed.
“The Kano State Fire Service wishes to inform the general public at about 4:32 am. Today, Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Service’s Emergency Response Unit, received an emergency call from one of our staff, Aminu Sani Warure, reporting the collapse of a building at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area.
“Upon receiving the report, men of the Service from the Headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, they discovered that a residential building of about 20 × 30 ft had collapsed,” the statement said.
According to the statement, all victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, identified as their father’s brother, for further care.
The Fire Service said an investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the collapse.
It also urged residents to observe necessary safety measures, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar incidents.
