Reports indicate that that a suspected leader and commander of the Uganda National Coalition for Change rebel group Frank David Semogerere has been detained by the Joint Security task force.
On Monday, police spokesperson Fred Enanga identified the rebel leader popularly called Colonel when speaking with reporters at the police headquarters.
He claims that he would soon be charged with several offenses in court, including murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and treachery.
With his capture, there are now 22 rebel suspects in custody. The police have a wanted list for the rebel group that was created last year with the goal of overthrowing the government.
In the areas of Mityana, Kassanda, Wakiso, and Kiboga, security personnel, including four police officers and two LDUs, were brutally attacked and killed.
Four police officers were shot dead and had their guns stolen in separate attacks, while two LDU employees were attacked, injured, and had a pistol seized from them in a separate incident in Wakiso.
While the five guns the rebel group stole earlier had been found, according to Enanga, the operation to dissolve the group went on, resulting in the arrest of the group’s overall commander.
