President Muhammadu Buhari will make a national broadcast on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 7 am.
This was disclosed by a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina, late Wednesday night.
Adesina said Television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.
News Central gathered that President Buhari’s address to the nation might not be unconnected to the chaos occasioned by the Naira swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The scarcity of new naira notes in Nigeria has resulted in long queues at banks and ATMs, leading to protests in some parts of the country.
The Central Bank of Nigeria initially set a deadline of January 31 for the use of old notes, which was later extended to February 10.
However, on February 8, the supreme court temporarily restrained the government from banning the use of old notes, pending a hearing on February 15.
Despite the court’s order, the CBN governor insisted on the deadline, causing confusion among business owners who continued to reject old notes.
This led to protests and violence, with reports of bank destruction and deaths in some states.
It is anticipated that the president will address the issue of Naira scarcity in his upcoming speech to the nation, contrary to previous statements from his media team.
