Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that the economic hardships experienced under the current administration are a thing of the past, declaring that the government’s controversial reforms have successfully stabilised the country.
“I come to you to assure you that the worst days are over. We have already fixed our economy,” Shettima said on Wednesday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Addressing the economic difficulties brought on by the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates, the Vice President acknowledged the widespread pain but insisted the policies were necessary.
“We inherited an economy burdened by fiscal pressure. We inherited a country with an infrastructure deficit. We inherited a country with weakened investor confidence and structural defects.
“These problems demanded decisions that no responsible government could postpone. But I come to you to assure you that the worst days are over. We have already fixed our economy,” he stated.

Shettima described the economic fallout as a surgical procedure that the nation has now survived.
“We are not in denial about the short-term pain that has accompanied our reforms. We have already come through that surgery, and believe me, it was successful,” he stated.
The Vice President pointed to massive infrastructure projects, such as the Akwanga and Maiduguri Superhighways, and increased fiscal allocations to state governments as evidence that the reforms are yielding results.
He urged voters to grant President Bola Tinubu a renewed mandate in the 2027 elections to complete the administration’s development agenda.
