Nigeria: Fire Razes Sokoto Central Market

On Monday, over one hundred and eighty stalls at the Sokoto State Central Market were destroyed by a fire that broke out in the early hours of the day.

Information received shows that the fire, which began at one of the market’s dumpsites, eventually devoured stalls and neighbouring parked motorcycles.

Mohammed Garba, Chairman of the market’s motorbike vendors, decried the enormous losses, which he estimated to be in the billions of naira range.
