The Lagos Zonal Commander of the National Agency for Prohibition of Human Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed that 71% of human trafficking victims in Nigeria are women.
Speaking through the agency’s Zonal PRO, Hajara Tunde-Osho, the commander commended stakeholders’ efforts in addressing challenges affecting women. This was during the five-year anniversary of the Women Voice and Leadership Nigeria Project (WVL-N) in Lagos.
The commander urged participating organisations to sustain and build on the project’s successes, addressing any issues and unexpected outcomes.
The Minister of Women’s Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, praised the project’s alignment with the ministry’s goal of increasing women’s leadership participation and mentioned the Nigerian government’s intention to expedite the gender bill’s passage.
