Bayern Munich Thrash Bochum 5-0 to Reclaim Top Spot in Bundesliga

Bayern Munich made a powerful comeback from their Champions League defeat to Barcelona, overwhelming bottom-placed Bochum with a 5-0 win on Sunday to reclaim the Bundesliga’s top position.

RB Leipzig had briefly taken the lead with a 3-1 comeback win over Freiburg on Saturday, but Bayern overtook them on goal difference as five different players contributed to the scoreline.

Under new coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich have impressed offensively but entered the match with only one win from their last six games across competitions.

Early on, Bayern faced a scare as Moritz Broschinski broke through their defence but couldn’t capitalise, his shot being cleared off the line by Minjae Kim. Michael Olise opened the scoring with a curling free kick, catching Bochum’s goalkeeper Patrick Drewes off-guard. Ten minutes later, Musiala headed in a second goal from a Joshua Kimmich set piece.

Bayern then shifted gears in the second half, with Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman all finding the net within a 14-minute span. Kane’s ninth league goal in eight league games was a brilliant top-corner finish, assisted by Musiala. Sane capitalised on a defensive error, while Coman’s powerful strike rounded off the rout.

Elsewhere, Union Berlin secured a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, climbing to fourth in the table. Mario Götze opened the scoring for Frankfurt in his 300th Bundesliga game, capitalising on Union’s inability to clear their box. Union equalised through Benedict Hollerbach, who netted a deft chip following a Frankfurt free kick.

Frankfurt were reduced to ten men when Arthur Theate received a second yellow card, and Union looked to have snatched victory in stoppage time, but VAR ruled out Jamie Skarke’s goal for offside.
