Dyche Regrets Losing Iwobi to Fulham During Everton’s Financial Woes

Everton manager Sean Dyche has opened up about his reluctance to let Alex Iwobi join Fulham on the last day of the transfer window in 2023, a decision forced by the club’s financial pressures.

Speaking before Everton’s match against West Ham yesterday, a match that later ended in a stalemate, Dyche explained, “Alex Iwobi’s transfer came up just before the deadline. I didn’t want to lose him, but it was a deal we had to make,” Dyche shared in his pre-match conference. “I accepted it and focused on reshaping the squad. If the price is right, the player goes; if not, they stay.”

Dyche’s remarks come during Everton’s looming takeover by the Friedkin Group, which follows eight years of ownership under Farhad Moshiri.

Since his transfer, Iwobi has excelled at Fulham, netting two goals and an assist in 10 Premier League appearances, including a strike against Everton in a recent 1-1 draw. The 27-year-old, who had played a key role in Everton’s survival, has quickly become integral to Fulham’s form, as highlighted by his recent goal in Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Brentford.

Iwobi’s strong form underscores Dyche’s reluctance to part ways, shedding light on the difficult financial decisions facing Everton.
