Openda, Sesko Shine as Leipzig Edge Frankfurt Ahead of Bayern Clash

RB Leipzig secured a vital 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, with goals from Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda setting up a tantalising showdown with league leaders Bayern Munich later this week.

Sesko opened the scoring in the 19th minute, heading in a rebound, but Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown levelled the match with a sharp solo strike just before half-time. Openda restored Leipzig’s lead early in the second half with a thunderous finish, taking his season tally to 12 goals.

The victory brought Leipzig level with Frankfurt on 27 points, six adrift of Bayern Munich, who suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Mainz on Saturday.

Leipzig, eliminated from the Champions League last week, will aim to close the gap on Bayern when they meet on Friday. A win would see Leipzig move within three points of the top while giving Bayer Leverkusen, currently four points behind, an opportunity to close the gap further.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt, who have now gone four matches without a win, will look to recover as their form continues to falter.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s poor run stretched to four games without a win after a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim. Jacob Bruun Larsen netted a late equaliser for the visitors, leaving Dortmund eighth in the table. Defender Nico Schlotterbeck described the performance as “unbelievably bad.”

Also, Stuttgart claimed a 3-1 victory over Heidenheim, climbing to sixth with their fourth straight win. Maximilian Mittelstaedt, Enzo Millot, and Nick Woltemade were on target for the visitors.
